Gdynia, Gdańsk and Sopot are sister cities located close to each other, so we travelled to Gdynia to spend the next day. Gdynia has a unique vibe, very different from the medieval, old town of Gdańsk. As we walked around Gdynia, we chanced upon a different church with a rectangular structure on our way to the Gdynia funicular.
The funicular is one of the most popular locations in Gdynia and takes you right up to the terrace with a view of the Gulf of Gdańsk. Also, the funicular is free to ride! We then walked over to the Gdynia aquarium. On the way, we saw the two important ship museums from outside (Dar Pomorza) and a pretty black ship, which turned out to be a restaurant. We weren’t able to find Blyskawicas, a popular naval museum, though.

We generally don’t visit zoos and museums due to the cruelty of caging animals, fish and birds for absolutely no reason other than human entertainment. Therefore, we conducted extensive research on the aquarium in Gdynia before deciding to visit. The Gdynia Aquatic Center is operated by the National Research Institute with a focus on the conservation of species that are otherwise being driven to extinction. We saw this aim is reflected in the type of fish being housed in this center as well as discussions on conservation, as well as re-release of fish back into the natural environment, once recovered. As with many other experiences, our stance on this will change if we are presented with new information, but I know it will always be in line with respecting and safeguarding the rights of animals and sentient beings.
Eating in Poland was often tricky for vegan travellers, but one of the best food joints we visited was Indi Bhukkad. The restaurant played all these comforting and familiar songs, making the warm meal even more satisfying. We even ended up packing our dinner and breakfast.
We took a bus to the Orlowo pier after having a very satisfying lunch at Indi Bhukkad. Orlowo Pier was beautifully lit up. We got some of the most stunning photos there. Seeing the lights twinkling in the water was such a beautiful atmosphere. The Kepa Redlowska Park is right next to the Orlowo pier, so you can take a walk in the national park and then head up the Orlowo pier back into the city.
